PE (KS3)

How many lessons will i Have?

Learners at KS3 will have four PE lessons over two weeks. The lessons will take place both indoors and outdoors depending on the activity.

What topics/activities will I be involved in? 

There are a range of sports/activities that you will be involved in, all of them are aimed at developing your physical skills/literacy and your understanding of health and well-being.

Examples of activities are:

Football, netball, badminton, gynmnastics, dance, orienteering, problem solving, rugby, health and fitness, traversing, dodgeball, athletics, cricket, rounders and ‘sports education’.

 What skills will I need?

Listening, communication, creativity, teamwork, confidence, thinking skills

 What equipment will I need?

You will need your PE kit.

PE (KS4)

How many lessons will I have?

Learners at KS4 will have two PE lessons over two weeks. The lessons will take place both indoors and outdoors depending on the activity.

What topics/activities will I be involved in?

There are a range of sports/activities that you will be involved in, all of them are aimed at developing your physical skills/literacy and your understanding of health and well-being.

There is a greater emphasis on developing individual pathways through sport and activities to develop a positive attitude to life-long participation.

Examples of activities are:

Football, netball, badminton, table-tennis, basketball, gynmnastics, problem solving, rugby, health and fitness activities, dodgeball, athletics, cricket, softball and rounders.

What skills will I need?

Listening, communication, creativity, teamwork, confidence, thinking skills, independance

What equipment will I need?

You will need your PE kit.

Health & Well-Being (KS3)

How many lessons will I have?

One lesson timetabled a week.

What topics will I learn?

Learners will have access to a qualification called ‘Agored Cyrmru’. Throughout KS3 they will complete topics of work that will gain them credits towards a qualification. If all topics and booklets to match are completed (internally and externally verified) by the end of KS3 learners will gain two qualifications which are the equivalent to 2 GCSE B grades.

Topics include:

  • Exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Anti-bullying awareness
  • Child poverty in Wales
  • The impact of Anti-Social Behaviour in the Community
  • Understanding Relationships
  • Understanding Substance Misuse
  • Understanding effects of alcohol

What skills will I need?

Listening, Writing, Teamwork, Communication Skills, Focus, Creativity, Confidence

What equipment will I need?

Pen, Pencil, Ruler

 

Food and Nutrition (KS4 )

How many lessons will I have?

5 lessons a fortnight

What topics will I learn?

You will cover topics under the following headings:

  • Food commodities
  • Principles of Nutrition
  • Diet and good health
  • The science of food
  • Where food comes from
  • Cooking and food preparation

What skills will I need?

  • Communication – listening and speaking
  • Practical making skills
  • Numeracy – weighing and measuring
  • Problem solving
  • Literacy

What equipment will I need?

  • Practical food ingredients
  • Writing equipment
  • Access to IT

 

 GCSE PE 

HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I HAVE

Learners will have five PE lessons over two weeks. The lessons will take place both indoors and outdoors depending on the activity.

WHAT TOPICS WILL I LEARN?

You will be assessed through an examination at the end of year 11, a piece of coursework and 3 practical sports.

Your piece of coursework will be to design an 8 week fitness programme aimed at improving your performance in your main sport.

There are a large number of sports you can choose from for assessment, and we will only cover some of these in school.

Theory  – Practical

Health and fitness  – Netball

How we train our bodies – Football

Muscular-skeletal system (Muscles and bones) – Gymnastics

Cardiovascular and cardio-respiratory system (Heart and lungs) –  Badminton

The effects of exercise on our bodies – Rounders

Movement analysis – Other sports will be tailored to the needs of the class for example:

Sports psychology – Rugby

 Participation  -Volleyball

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED?

● You will need to already participate in 2 sports outside of school

● Determination

● Analytical thinking

● Teamwork

● Communication

● Confidence participating with peers (mixed genders)

● Physical literacy – the ability to participate practically in a range of activities

WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

Full PE kit (either GCSE kit, or regular school kit), pen, access to digital resources, glue, highlighters.

HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I HAVE

Learners at KS4 will have five lessons per fortnight, these could be based in a computer room or a classroom.
