Estyn Report

27th March 2023

Dear Parents / Carers,

As you will be aware, Connah’s Quay High School was inspected by Estyn, His Majesty’s Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales in January 2023. Our report has now been published and the school has been placed in the category of ‘In Need of Significant Improvement’.

Although the judgement comes with disappointment, the Governing Body and I fully accept the findings of the report and its specific recommendations. The report also highlights many positive aspects of the school’s provision and the work of the staff who ‘foster a nurturing, inclusive environment’. The report identified that, at its heart, the school benefits from dedicated teaching staff
noting that “pupils enjoy school and feel safe and well-supported by staff”.

I welcome all the findings in the report, and have been working hard with staff alongside the Local Authority and its school improvement partner, GwE in developing our post inspection action plan. This will give the school the clear direction needed. When appointed in January 2023, I took on the role on
with the knowledge that hard work, commitment and dedication to school improvement were needed to place this school back at the heart of the community. In a matter of weeks, through the support from our dedicated governors, staff, parents and amazing learners, we have already seen a demonstrable improvement in the learning environment, uniform and standards of behaviour and conduct.

I look forward to continuing this journey with all members of the Connah’s Quay community and ensuring rapid progress in the next 12 months and beyond.

Yours faithfully
for Connah’s Quay High School
